Fall is my favorite season. I love the changing colors of the leaves here in Virginia, the cooler weather, and knowing that it’s the season for some things to begin anew: The kids are back in school, football season kicks off, and the U.S. government even begins a new fiscal year. I feel like I have a clean slate to begin new projects and get energized after a summer in slow-down mode. Now is a great time to think about what’s ahead.
The air is cooler and my mind is racing. There are so many things to start up, clean up, follow up and improve. While it’s true that eye-catching Fall hues soothe me and make me want to snuggle up with a mug of hot chocolate, they also inspire me. A pen and paper are always at hand for new thoughts and ideas.
Is this your season for change? If so, it’s important to stay focused and committed to making a change for something fresh, new and exciting. The same is true for marketing your business. Maybe you should revisit an idea that was tabled in the Spring–a proposed logo change or a branding idea that had merit but was too overwhelming at the time. If this is your season, you might just feel the motivation to tackle something big and worth the effort.
Where do you find inspiration? Watching a football game might give you a new idea. Look at the colors of the jerseys–bright, bold, distinctive. Could the same be said of the colors on your website? (Do you think it’s shallow to admit that colors on a web page would make me think twice about doing business with someone? Who knew?!)
What’s the best time for you to gather information, and what do you do with it? Other than family dinner time, that ride to soccer practice or a scouting event is when I get some of the best “information” from my three children.
All of the projects I start in the Fall tend to end up completed. Whether it’s scrapbooking our summer fun or writing articles about branding practices, I just feel more enthusiastic about getting things done. Be thankful for that summer trip to the beach, but look to Fall changes to energize your life and your business.
What projects are you working on this Fall? We’d love to hear about them in comments below.

Sandy- The best time for projects for our family seems to be in the winter/early spring. In Nebraska our weather dictates that we spend the majority of the winter and spring indoors. We get lots of our house remodel jobs done in the winter. Once spring, summer, and fall come we are out and about at the lake or camping!
